Babası Birleşmiş Milletler'de bir diplomatdı. Lambert, İsviçre-Cenevre'de büyüdü. Lambert, Ekim 1988'den 1994'e kadar Diane Lane ile evli kaldı. Onların Eleanor Jasmin adında bir kızı oldu. 6 Şubat 1999'da Jaiymse Haft ile evlendi. 2007 yılından bu yana, Sophie Marceau ile bir ilişki olmuştur ve 2012 yılında evlenmişlerdir.
