John T. Scopes

John Thomas Scopes (d. 3 Ağustos 1900, Paducah, Kentucky - ö. 21 Ekim 1970, Shreveport, Louisiana), ABD'nin Tennessee eyaletindeki Dayton'da, Tennessee'nin Butler Kanunu'nu ihlalden dolayı 5 Mayıs 1925'te hüküm giymiş bir öğretmendi. Butler Kanunu'na göre, Tennessee bölgesindeki okullarda Evrim Teorisi'nin öğretilmesi yasaktı. Davası, Scopes Davası ismi ile bilinmektedir.

Scopes Davası, Inherit the Wind (Türkçe'ye Maymun Davası olarak çevrilmiştir) isimli filmde konu edilmiştir.
