Muddy Waters

Muddy Waters, gerçek adıyla McKinley Morganfield, (d. 4 Nisan 1913, Issaquena County, Mississippi - ö. 30 Nisan 1983, Westmont, İllinois), ABD'li blues müzisyeni, yaygın kanıyla " Chicago blues'un babası".

Blues müzik türünün temelini oluşturduğu varsayılan Waters, II. Dünya Savaşı öncesinde blues tarzın önde gelen adıydı. Mızıka çalmaya başlayarak müziğe olan ilgisini hayata geçiren Waters, "Evlatlar Evi" olarak bilinen Eddie James'le tanışmasının ardından 20'li yaşlarında Willie Wilson'dan etkilendi. O dönemde sahneye çıkarak gitar çaldı. 1943 yılında Chicago'ya taşındı.1958 yılında İngiltere turnesine çıkan sanatçı geniş dinleyici kitlelerince tanınıp sevildi. Yaşamı boyunca maddi sıkıntılar çeken Muddy Waters, kamyon şöförlüğü, boyacılık gibi işlerde çalışarak bir yandan geçimini sağladı ve birçok albüm üretti. İlk çıkan elektrogitarları kullanmaktan kaçınmayan Waters, "Missisipi" takma adıyla anılmaktaydı.

Şarkı sözü yazarlığı da yapan ve Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones gibi müzisyen ve toplulukların etkilendiği sanatçı, kalp yetmezliği nedeniyle yaşamını yitirdi.
