Patricia Cornwell, 1956 doğumlu, Amerikan cinayet romanı yazarı.
İlk romanını 1991'de yayınladı. En çok satan gerilim yazarlarından biridir.
28 yaşında polis muhabirliğini bırakıp Virginia'daki adli tabiplik bürosunda çalışmaya başladı. Altı yıl boyunca raportör ve bilgisayar analizcisi olarak morgda çalıştı. İlk kitabını 1983 yılında tamamladı.1990 yılında basılan ilk romanı Postmortem'dir.

- Prix du Roman d'Adventures for Postmortem (1992)
- Gold Dagger for Cruel and Unusual (1993)[5]
- Sherlock Award for Best Detective for the character Kay Scarpetta (1999)[6]
- British Book Awards' Crime Thriller of the Year for Book of the Dead (2008) (Cornwell is the first American author to receive this award.)
- RBA International Thriller Prize 2011 for Red Mist (Spain, €125,000)[7]
