Sandra Cisneros 1954 yılında Chicago'da, 7 kardeşin 3.sü ve tek kız olarak doğdu. Üniversiteden mezun olduktan sonra öğretmen olarak çalıştı. Birçok kısa hikâye ve şiir yazdı.
