ABD HIV/AIDS tarihi yaklaşık 1969 yıllarına dayanır. Virüs ülkeye Haitiden gelmiştir.[2] 1970'lerin sonlarında ve 1980'lerin başlarında Los Angeles'daki doktorlar akdeniz insanında sıklıkla görülen Kaposi sarkomu kanserini tespit ettiler.

Güncel durumu

2010 yılında AİDS'ten ölen insan sayısı 636,048'dir, bunların 4.891'i 13 yaşının altındaki çocuklardır. Toplam AİDS vakası 1,155,792 olduğu tahmin edilmektedir.[4] Bununla beraber 2006'da HIV ile yaşayan insan sayısı 1,106,400.[5]
