Douglas P. (d. Douglas Pearce, 27 Nisan 1956), İngiliz folk müzisyeni, plak şirketi sahibi, fotoğrafçı ve aktör. Death in June grubu'nu yönetmektedir. Sheerwater, Woking, Surrey, İngiltere'de doğmuştur. Şu an Avustralya'da yaşamaktadır.
İlk yılları
Pearce 27 Nisan 1956'da "Beyaz, işçi sınıfı gettosu" olarak tanımladığı Londra'nın Sheerwater adlı kenar mahallesinde dünyaya geldi. Babası İkinci Dünya Savaşı'nda da hizmet etmiş olan askeri bir kuryeydi. Annesi de babası da İngilizdi fakat annesi İskoç-İrlandalı ataları olduğunu belirtmiştir. Henüz 14 yaşındayken babası 56 yaşında kalp krizinden öldü. Kendi tanımıyla Pearce "savaş ile çevrelenmiş, oldukça militarist" bir ortamda büyüdüğünü ve "savaşa doğal bir ilgisi olduğunu" söylemiştir. 18 yaşındayken evi terk edip Avrupa'yı otostop çekerek gezdi ve eve "değişmiş bir adam olarak geri döndü".[1]
Çocukken içine içine cin girdiği düşünülerek şeytan çıkarma eylemi gerçekleştirilmişti. Babası öldükten sonra annesi "elinde bir Ouija tahtası ile saçmalardı". Pearce paranormal ve okültizme hala kararlıca inanmakta ve farklı varlıklarla iletişim kurduğunu iddia etmektedir.[2]
Douglas P. açıkça eşcinseldir[3] ve "gey olmanın Death in June'un esası" olduğunu ve Death in June'un bu yönünün ropörtajlarda hiç bahsedilmemesinden hoşnutsuz olduğunu söylemiştir. Yukio Mişima ve Jean Genet'den etkilenmiştir ve hayranlığını "Sadece çalışmaları dahice olduğu için değil, ayrıca eşcinsel oldukları için. Bunun etkisi çok fazla." şeklinde ifade etmiştir.[4]
Müzik çalışmaları
Crisis
Pearce müzik kariyerine 1977 yılında İngiliz punk grubu Crisis ile başladı.[5] Crisis 1980 yılında dağıldıktan sonra Crisis'ten tanıdığı Tony Wakeford (şimdi İngiliz folk noir grubu Sol Invictus) ve Patrick O'Kill né Leagas (şimdi İngiltere'de Mother Destruction adlı grubun üyesi) ile birlikte Death in June'u kurdu.
Death in June
1985 yılında Douglas P. Death in June'un tek kalıcı üyesi oldu ve konuk müzisyenleri birlikte albüm yapmak veya konserde çalmak için yönlendirdi. Death in June adını kendi takma adı olarak kullanmaktadır.
NER
Pearce 1981 yılından beri kendi ve başka sanatçıların pek çok albümlerini ve diğer kayıtlarını New European Recordings adlı kendi plak şirketiyle yayınladı.
Neofolk
Sıkça neofolk olan bahsedilen müzik hareketinin oluşmasında Pearce rolü oldukça büyüktür. Bu türde müzik yapan pek çok sanatçıyla albümler için işbirliği yaptığı gibi birlikte konserler vermiştir.
