Geçimlik ekonomi; avcılık, toplayıcılık ve geçimlik tarım sayesinde temel ihtiyaçların sağlandığı doğal kaynaklara dayalı bir ekonomidir.[1] Geçim, asgari düzeyde kendini desteklemeyi gerektirir; geçimlik ekonomide endüstrileşme yoktur, ekonomik fazlalık çok azdır ve bu fazlalık yalnızca temel malların ticareti için kullanılır.[2]
