Hayatı

Ailesi ona Dustin ismini aktör Dustin Farnum'dan esinlenerek vermiştir. Santa Monica Communicty College’i bitirdi. Lee Strasberg ile çalışmak için New York’a taşınmadan önce Pasadena Playhouse’da öğrenim gördü. Hollywood’a gelişinden itibaren film yapımında yepyeni ve canlı yaklaşımların getirilmesine yardımcı oldu. Karakter oyuncularıyla başrol aktörleri arasında daha önceden var olan ayrımı yok eden oyun tarzıyla Hollywood’da kendisine seçkin bir kariyer yapmayı başardı. Dustin Hoffman’ın film dünyasının ilk dikkatini çekmesi, Mike Nichols’un “The Graduate” adlı filminde çizdiği Benjamin Braddock rolüyle oldu. O filmdeki rolüyle Oscar adaylığı aldıktan sonra ilerleyen yıllarda Midnight Cowboy, Lenny, Tootsie ve Wag the Dog gibi birbirinden ayrı kulvarlardaki filmlerdeki başarısıyla altı kez daha Oscar adaylığı aldı. Papillon filminde Steve McQueen ile kamera karşısına geçti; bu filmde ününü perçinledi. Toplamda yedi defa eşiğinden döndüğü Oscar ödülünü, 1979 yılında oynadığı Kramer Vs. Kramer ve 1988 yılında Tom Cruise ile birlikte kamera karşısına geçtiği Yağmur Adam ile kucakladı. Dustin Hoffman’ı yakın dönemde Marc Forster imzalı Stranger Than Fiction adlı filmde Will Ferrell , Maggie Gyllenhaal , Emma Thompson ve Queen Latifah’a karşı izledik. Hoffman’ın yakın dönemde kamera karşısına geçtiği bir başka ses getiren film, Tom Tykwer imzalı “Perfume” oldu.
